Bottle Release: USS Charlotte Carolina Rum, Navy Strength

One hundred bottles. That's the entire first run.

USS Charlotte Carolina Rum, Navy Strength is a collaboration between the 766 Silent Stinger Society, the SSN 777 Club, the North Carolina Submarine Foundation, Muddy River Distillery, and Sleepy G Stickers, whose team designed the label from scratch. Proceeds go to the crew and families of USS Charlotte.

We're releasing it Wednesday, September 16 at 6:00 PM at Muddy River Distillery, 250 N. Main Street in Mount Holly. Free to attend.

The date wasn't picked at random. September 16, 1994 is the day Charlotte was commissioned.

About the boat

USS Charlotte (SSN 766) is a Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine and the fourth Navy ship to carry the name of the city. Her motto is Silent Stinger. In 2005 she surfaced at the North Pole through 61 inches of ice, a record for her class. She's been on the water since 1994 and she's still out there.

About the rum

Navy Strength is the old overproof standard, strong enough that spilled gunpowder would still light. Felt like the right proof for this one.
