PEARL HARBOR, HI — The much-anticipated homecoming of the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Charlotte (SSN 766) marked a proud and emotional day for the Pearl Harbor Navy community. After a demanding deployment from Thanksgiving 2025 through May 2026, the "Silent Stinger" returned to its homeport. This marked the end of a six-month chapter of vital operations.

To the families, loved ones, and friends gathered on the pier: Congratulations, and welcome home. Your unwavering strength and resilience were the backbone of this deployment. You sustained our Sailors through months of complete radio silence.

Mission Success Beneath the Waves

The crew of the Charlotte operated under intense international developments. They demonstrated the operational excellence that defines the U.S. Navy's submarine force.

Engineering Marvel

Built for stealth, endurance, and precision strike capability, the Charlotte is an engineering marvel designed to operate undetected in contested waters:

Submerged Displacement: ~6,927 tons of specialized steel and technology.
Dimensions: 362 feet long, 32 feet wide, and a draft of 30 feet. This allows agile maneuvering in deep and littoral environments.
Propulsion & Power: Powered by an S6G nuclear reactor driving steam turbines to a single shaft. This grants the vessel virtually limitless operational endurance.
Lethal Capabilities: Equipped for strike warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and special operations support. It utilizes Mark 48 ADCAP torpedoes, Tomahawk cruise missiles (VLS and tube-launched), and Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

Throughout this deployment, the crew of 12 officers and 98 enlisted personnel leveraged these capabilities. They protected national security interests, gathered critical intelligence, and reassured allies across the Indo-Pacific region.

A Legacy of Excellence

The exceptional performance of the "Silent Stinger" builds upon a storied service record. Originally built by Newport News Shipbuilding, the Charlotte was commissioned on September 16, 1994. It has consistently delivered under pressure.

Historic Milestones

Its historic milestones include:

A Persian Gulf deployment in 1998.
A 2005 Arctic transit where it surfaced at the North Pole through 61 inches of ice.
Multiple Western Pacific deployments.

These achievements have earned the vessel 3 Meritorious Unit Commendations, 2 Navy Unit Commendations, and 2 Battle “E” Awards.
