USS Charlotte SSN 766 Returns Home to Celebrations and Family Welcomes After High-Tempo Operations

PEARL HARBOR, HI — The much-anticipated homecoming of the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Charlotte (SSN 766) marked a proud and deeply emotional day for the Pearl Harbor Navy community. Following a demanding, high-tempo deployment from Thanksgiving 2025 through May 2026, the "Silent Stinger" safely returned to its homeport, closing a six-month chapter of vital forward-deployed operations.

To the families, loved ones, and friends gathered on the pier: Congratulations, and welcome home. Your unwavering strength, resilience, and reliability at home were the true backbone of this deployment, sustaining our Sailors through months of complete radio silence.

Mission Success Beneath the Waves

Operating under intense international developments, the crew of the Charlotte demonstrated the precise operational excellence that defines the U.S. Navy's submarine force.

Built for ultimate stealth, endurance, and precision strike capability, the Charlotte is an engineering marvel designed to operate undetected in highly contested waters:

• Submerged Displacement: ~6,927 tons of specialized steel and technology.

• Dimensions: A length of 362 feet, a beam of 32 feet, and a draft of 30 feet, allowing agile maneuvering in deep and littoral environments.

• Propulsion & Power: Powered by an S6G nuclear reactor driving steam turbines to a single shaft, granting the vessel virtually limitless operational endurance.

• Lethal Capabilities: Fully equipped for strike warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and special operations support, utilizing Mark 48 ADCAP torpedoes, Tomahawk cruise missiles (VLS and tube-launched), and Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

Throughout this six-month deployment, the crew of 12 officers and 98 enlisted personnel leveraged these capabilities to protect national security interests, gather critical intelligence, and reassure allies across the Indo-Pacific region.

A Legacy of Excellence

The exceptional performance of the "Silent Stinger" on this patrol builds upon a storied service record. Originally built by Newport News Shipbuilding (Keel laid: Aug 17, 1990; Commissioned: Sept 16, 1994), the fourth Navy vessel to carry the name Charlotte has consistently delivered under pressure.

Its historic milestones include a Persian Gulf deployment in 1998, a 2005 Arctic transit where it famously surfaced at the North Pole through 61 inches of ice, and multiple Western Pacific deployments—achievements that have earned the vessel 3 Meritorious Unit Commendations, 2 Navy Unit Commendations, and 2 Battle “E” Awards.
